The Nigerian gospel music community is in mourning following the passing of beloved singer Aduke Ajayi, widely known as Aduke Gold. The sad news was shared by her fellow artist, Esther Igbeke, who posted a heartfelt tribute on Instagram on Monday.
Esther shared Aduke Gold’s photo with the poignant caption, “A general has fallen. RIP,” though the details surrounding Aduke’s death have not been disclosed.
Aduke Gold had a profound influence in the gospel music scene, despite its competitive nature. Her inspiring and soul-stirring songs resonated with many, and she became a household name with her breakout single, “Nitori 0go” (which means ‘Because of Glory’), from her well-received eight-track album.
Her passing is particularly heartbreaking, coming just six months after the death of another notable gospel artist, Egbin Orun, who passed away on April 28, 2024.
