The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has officially named German coach Bruno Labbadia as the new Head Coach of the Super Eagles, Nigeria’s senior men’s national football team. The NFF shared this update early Tuesday via their official X handle (formerly Twitter), following the Executive Committee’s approval.
According to a statement from NFF General Secretary Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, Labbadia’s appointment was based on a recommendation from the Technical and Development Sub-Committee. The statement read, “The NFF Executive Committee has approved the recommendation to appoint Mr. Bruno Labbadia as the Head Coach of the Super Eagles.”
While the announcement confirmed Labbadia’s new role, details regarding his contract length, salary, and performance expectations were not revealed.
The Super Eagles have been without a permanent coach since Finidi George stepped down after a brief stint following Jose Peseiro’s departure. With the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers approaching, Labbadia’s appointment comes at a crucial time. The team is set to face Benin Republic on September 7 in Uyo, followed by a match against Rwanda in Kigali three days later.
Labbadia, who has experience coaching several Bundesliga teams, is expected to bring stability and strong leadership to the Super Eagles as they gear up for a successful AFCON campaign and aim for World Cup qualification.
