Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has shared the reasons behind naming the new Edo Arena after Benin-born musician Divine Ikubor, known as Rema.
According to Naija News, Rema joined Governor Obaseki for a groundbreaking ceremony at the arena’s site in Benin on Wednesday. This event marked the beginning of construction for the venue, which is set to host Rema’s homecoming concert at Ogbe Stadium.
Obaseki emphasized that Rema, as a proud ambassador of Benin and Edo State, is a fitting figure to honor. He believes the arena, renamed “Rema Dome,” will draw visitors and international stars to Benin, significantly boosting the state’s tourism potential.
On his X account, Obaseki wrote, “It was an honor to have our global music icon @heisrema with me for the groundbreaking of the 6,000-capacity Edo Arena. The ‘Rema Dome,’ located at the former Garrick Memorial School Ground on Ekenhuan Road, will offer visitors a chance to experience our vibrant culture and create job opportunities for our youth.”
The Governor reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to enhancing tourism and attracting investment to Edo State.
