Football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has weighed in on the ongoing rumors linking Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen with a potential move to Chelsea in the upcoming January transfer window. Romano’s comments come after former Chelsea midfielder John Mikel Obi hinted at the possibility of the Nigerian star joining the London club.
Chelsea had been keen to sign the 25-year-old forward during the summer transfer window, reportedly offering four different contract proposals. However, the deal fell through as the club couldn’t meet Osimhen’s current salary demands at Napoli.
Since the transfer negotiations failed, Osimhen secured a season-long loan move to Turkish side Galatasaray, where he is focused on performing.
Addressing the situation on his YouTube channel, Romano made it clear that Osimhen is fully committed to his contract with Galatasaray and is not distracted by the transfer talk. He emphasized that the striker’s priority is honoring his current agreement.
Despite the breakdown of talks in the summer, Romano acknowledged Chelsea’s enduring interest in the player. He explained that the club is aware of the complexities surrounding Osimhen’s financial terms but continues to admire the striker.
“What I can tell you—and I’ve said it before—is that Chelsea’s interest in Victor Osimhen remains strong,” Romano stated. “They understand how challenging the financial negotiations were in August, but their appreciation for him is still very much alive.”
While Chelsea’s pursuit of Osimhen may not have succeeded in the past, the club’s admiration for the striker leaves the door open for future discussions.
