A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail of N10 million each to ten #EndBadGovernance protesters, accused of attempting to overthrow President Bola Tinubu between August 1 and 4 this year.
Justice Emeka Nwite, delivering the ruling on their bail applications, set strict conditions. Each protester must provide a surety who owns property in Abuja, and the property documents must be submitted to the court. Additionally, the sureties are required to swear to an affidavit of means.
The court also ordered that each defendant must produce a surety who resides in Abuja, willing to surrender their international passport along with three recent passport photos to the court.
While the Inspector General of Police opposed the bail applications, the judge rejected these objections but directed that the defendants must not participate in any public protests during the trial.
The court ruled that the defendants remain in custody until their bail conditions are fully met, with their trial set to begin on September 27. The accused are facing charges of treason for allegedly levying war against Nigeria during a week-long nationwide protest.
