Nigerian music sensation Seyi Vibez, whose real name is Balogun Afolabi Oluwaloseyi, has officially parted ways with his record label, Dapper Music. The split comes amid a flurry of activity on his social media, where both Seyi Vibez and Dapper Music have unfollowed each other.
The move follows significant backlash Seyi Vibez received from Nigerians in Toronto, Canada, after he abruptly canceled a scheduled performance there. In response, he updated his social media profile to highlight his new status as an “Independent artist,” and cleared his previous posts, signaling a fresh start in his music career.
Recently, Seyi Vibez unveiled the official video for his song “Lagos,” a track exploring themes of love, betrayal, and resilience.
Just a few months ago, Seyi Vibez shared insights into his challenging early years. He rose to fame with his hit single “Chance (Na Ham)” in 2022, which earned him the Best Street-Hop Artiste award at the 16th Headies Awards in 2023. In a candid interview with Cool FM Lagos, he reflected on his tough upbringing. At 15, Seyi Vibez was encouraged by his family to leave home and fend for himself, facing harsh realities in the ghetto.
“I left home when I was 15,” he recalled. “Life was tough, and even my own family told me to go. They said, ‘Go, don’t die here. It’s better you go away and hustle for yourself.’”
