The presidency has come forward to support President Bola Tinubu’s recent decision to appoint Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu as the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs. Bianca, among several new ministers announced by Tinubu, is expected to play a vital role in addressing the challenges facing the nation.
In a conversation on ARISE TV, Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, highlighted Bianca’s diplomatic background, noting her previous role as an ambassador to Spain. He stated, “While some might focus on her being the widow of Ojukwu, it’s important to recognize that she brings valuable diplomatic experience to the table. Appointing her as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs reflects the President’s commitment to making informed choices. She is equipped to contribute significantly to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.”
Onanuga also explained the rationale behind maintaining the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation. He noted, “President Tinubu envisions expanding the ministry’s reach. Given that many citizens face economic hardships, the government feels it is essential to provide support and palliatives to those in need.”
Acknowledging past issues with corruption in this ministry, Onanuga mentioned, “While corruption has affected operations previously, the current administration is focused on implementing technology to enhance transparency. For instance, individuals receiving funds will be required to have a National ID Number (NIN), allowing us to effectively track beneficiaries.”
