Doyin Okupe, a former presidential spokesperson and ex-director-general of the Peter Obi Presidential Campaign Organization, has praised President Bola Tinubu’s recent cabinet reshuffle, especially his move to eliminate what he referred to as “superfluous ministries.”
In a Thursday interview in Lagos, Okupe emphasized the strategic involvement of the global auditing firm KPMG in assessing ministerial performance, which contributed to the decision to dismiss several ministers. He remarked, “President Tinubu has taken a significant step by reorganizing his cabinet mid-term. Eliminating unnecessary ministries is crucial for reducing waste and creating a more efficient government. This action is commendable.”
He noted that this cabinet reshuffle stands out because the removal of ministers has been based on objective performance metrics rather than arbitrary or emotional decisions. “KPMG has played a key role in evaluating the performance of these ministers,” he added.
Okupe urged the new cabinet to take decisive action in addressing Nigeria’s pressing challenges. He expressed optimism about President Tinubu’s ‘Renewed Hope Agenda,’ which aims to reposition the country.
“The president has the ability and leadership skills needed to navigate Nigeria out of the economic difficulties it faced upon his assumption of office in May 2023,” Okupe concluded.
