Popular Nigerian rapper, Folarin Falana, widely known as Falz, has expressed his dismay over allegations made by VeryDarkMan (VDM) against him and his father, renowned lawyer Femi Falana. Falz revealed he was deeply affected by the false claims and has taken legal action to seek damages as a form of redress.
In an interview with media personality Adesope, Falz explained that before the incident, he wasn’t familiar with VDM’s activism. The issue began when VDM released a video accusing Falz and his father of being involved in a plot with crossdresser Bobrisky to manipulate justice and bribe the EFCC. VDM further insinuated that Falz had a personal relationship with Bobrisky and falsely claimed that his activist stance was a facade.
Falz expressed his frustration, saying, “One day, this person decided to turn on his ring light and make direct statements, insinuations, and allegations that I and my dad connived with someone to manipulate justice, bribed the EFCC, and that I’m doing this because of a supposed relationship with Bobrisky. All of this without a single shred of evidence.”
He further explained that his lawyer had reached out to the individual VDM referenced in the audio recording, who admitted that neither he nor Falz’s father had given or received any money. With that clarification, Falz proceeded to file a defamation lawsuit, stressing, “He who alleges must prove.”
Despite a court ruling instructing VDM to remove the video in question, Falz noted that the content remains online, prompting him to continue with his defamation suit. “In my defamation case, I’m seeking damages because that’s the only remedy available in a civil suit. I chose not to pursue criminal charges, even though defamation has a criminal angle. Instead, I’m handling this through the legal system,” Falz explained.
Falz emphasized that his goal is not to oppress VDM but to defend his reputation and that of his family. “I don’t go looking for trouble. But when someone sets up a camera and spreads these false claims about me, how can I just sit back and do nothing?”
