Manchester United icon Paul Scholes has expressed doubts over the growing anticipation around Ruben Amorim potentially stepping in as the club’s next manager. Scholes argues that Amorim may not necessarily offer an upgrade over Erik ten Hag, who was recently let go by the club.
While Amorim is reportedly a strong candidate for the role, Scholes has suggested that the club should have aimed for Thomas Tuchel, highlighting Tuchel’s experience and strong credentials.
In a recent debate on The Overlap Fan Debate, Scholes shared his thoughts: “For me, Thomas Tuchel would have been a perfect choice to lead United. Unfortunately, he’s now with the England team, but he’s got the proven ability to manage at the top level and knows how to handle critical games. His record says it all.”
Commenting on Amorim’s appeal, Scholes said, “The excitement around him feels a bit like when Erik ten Hag came in. Amorim’s made his mark in Portugal, a league that’s definitely challenging. He’s brought success and has a compelling style, which brings hope. But whether that translates at a club like United—time will tell.”
