Equatorial Guinea Dismisses Financial Official Amid Scandal
Equatorial Guinea’s government has removed Baltasar Ebang Engonga, the Director General of the National Financial Investigation Agency (ANIF), following revelations of roughly 400 explicit videos allegedly involving him and well-known women across the nation. President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo ordered the dismissal, officially documented in Decree No. 118/2024 on November 4, as reported by Real Equatorial Guinea.
The decree stated that Engonga’s removal was due to misconduct and personal behavior deemed incompatible with his position. The scandal erupted after videos reportedly surfaced online, appearing to show Engonga in compromising situations with prominent women, sparking intense public reaction.
First Lady Constancia Mangue Obiang expressed her disapproval during a meeting with Prime Minister Manuel Osa Nsue. She voiced concern over the privacy and dignity of women in Equatorial Guinea and urged the government to take measures to protect women from similar violations.
In a statement from her Press Office, the First Lady emphasized the need to safeguard women’s rights and privacy, especially as technology evolves. She acknowledged progress in gender equality in the country, stressing the importance of continuing to create a respectful and safe environment for all women.
