Don Jazzy, the highly respected music executive and founder of Mavin Records, recently opened up about his relationship status in a candid Instagram post. The 41-year-old music mogul expressed his disappointment over being unable to join the latest viral trend, the “suspect challenge,” which couples typically participate in by teasing one another in a playful manner. Don Jazzy humorously shared that he couldn’t partake in the challenge due to his current single status, writing, “Suspect wants to do suspect challenge but no suspect partner,” adding that it “hurts.”
This isn’t the first time Don Jazzy has addressed his personal life publicly. In 2021, he revealed that he had been married to Michelle Jackson, a UK-based writer and model, when he was just 20. Their marriage lasted only two years, ending in divorce when Don Jazzy was 22. Reflecting on this, he admitted that his intense focus on music had led to the breakdown of his marriage, saying, “I messed it up because I was giving all my time to my music.”
In more recent discussions about his relationship journey, Don Jazzy has shared that he has chosen not to remarry just yet. Instead, he is concentrating on self-growth and development. “I dey work on myself so that when my head correct, my babe go enjoy me,” he humorously shared in a social media post, expressing his commitment to becoming the best version of himself.
Aside from his personal reflections, Don Jazzy continues to make waves in the music industry. Earlier this year, Mavin Records, his hugely successful record label, was acquired by a foreign investor. This follows the label’s incredible journey since its inception in 2012, after Don Jazzy’s previous partnership with D’banj and the closure of Mo’ Hits Records. Mavin has since nurtured some of Nigeria’s biggest musical talents, including Tiwa Savage, Ayra Starr, Rema, Johnny Drille, and many more.
In 2019, to celebrate his 37th birthday, Don Jazzy unveiled Mavin Creative Studios, a state-of-the-art headquarters that serves as a hub for creativity and innovation in the Nigerian music scene. Mavin Records’ success has not gone unnoticed, having earned several accolades, including two consecutive MTV Africa Music Awards for Best Record Label in 2013 and 2014.
Mavin’s artists have also garnered international attention, collaborating with global stars such as Beyoncé, Selena Gomez, Chris Brown, and Kelly Rowland, further solidifying Don Jazzy’s status as a key player in the music industry. Despite his focus on his career, Don Jazzy continues to engage with his fans and share his personal growth journey, creating a relatable and inspiring narrative.
