A viral photo circulating on social media shows Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, appearing to pay homage to Musiliu Akinsanya, widely known as MC Oluomo. Recently sworn in as president of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) on November 11, Oluomo is a well-known figure in Nigeria’s transport sector.
The image, shared on WhatsApp, depicts Obi standing next to MC Oluomo, dressed in a white Agbada. The post, which has gained traction online, claims that Obi expressed his intent to work with the newly-appointed NURTW leader. The caption read, “Peter Obi pays homage to MC Oluomo, vows to work with him as the new NURTW National President!”
However, upon further investigation, it appears that the image may not be as genuine as it seems. A reverse image search conducted by TheCable revealed that the white Agbada worn by Oluomo in the picture was the same attire he wore on the day he assumed office. This raised doubts about the authenticity of the claim, as no reputable media outlet had reported such an encounter.
Moreover, checks on the Instagram page of Goldmynetv, the source of the post, revealed no trace of the image. Further analysis using digital photo forensics tools, such as fotoforensic, identified inconsistencies in Obi’s clothing, suggesting the image had been altered. The color variations in the photo also indicated possible tampering, raising questions about the photo’s credibility.
As the image continues to circulate, it serves as a reminder of the importance of verifying information before drawing conclusions from viral content online.
