Nollywood actor Nonso Diobi recently shared an intriguing story about how veteran actress Hilda Dokubo played a pivotal role in launching his career. During an appearance on the ‘Nollywood Hardcore’ podcast, Nonso revealed that his resemblance to Hilda was the key to landing his first major movie role.
He recalled attending an audition where Hilda noticed him from a distance. She immediately pointed out to the director that he looked like her and suggested he be cast as her brother in the film.
Nonso explained, “I was at the audition when I started hearing people call my name from afar. As I got closer, Hilda Dokubo said, ‘This young man looks just like me. He should play my brother.’”
That moment marked a significant turning point in Nonso’s career, which had already seen him go through more than 1,000 auditions over three years. The role came to him without him needing to audition for it, all thanks to Hilda’s keen eye and generous recommendation.
