Veteran rapper Eldee The Don recently revealed that his father played a pivotal role in introducing the internet to Nigeria. According to Eldee, his father established Lagos’s first cyber cafe and provided internet services to major organizations, including oil companies and government institutions.
The rapper shared this during an interview on the Adesope Live show, where he explained that his father’s contributions are often overlooked because he preferred to work behind the scenes.
Eldee reflected on how his father’s involvement in technology gave him early access to tools that shaped his music career.
“My dad was a pioneer in his field,” Eldee said. “He was the first person to connect Nigeria to the internet. People might debate this because they don’t know his name—he wasn’t someone who sought public attention. But he was instrumental in setting up Lagos’s first cyber cafe and establishing connections for companies like Mobil, the Central Bank, and even government agencies.”
He also mentioned that having access to cutting-edge technology at home allowed him to set up a studio, giving him an edge in producing music during the early days of his career.
Eldee’s story highlights how technological advancements can influence creative pursuits, offering a unique insight into the intersection of innovation and artistry
