Dario Vitale, the acclaimed design director of Miu Miu, is reportedly stepping down from his role at the end of January. Sources suggest that Francesca Nicoletti, a long-time collaborator at the label, is poised to succeed him. Nicoletti, a graduate of the Istituto Marangoni, has been part of Miu Miu’s design team since 2010 and brings years of experience to the position.
Vitale’s career began in southern Italy before he moved to Milan to pursue formal training in fashion. His journey with the Prada Group has spanned several years, with his contributions significantly shaping Miu Miu’s direction. His promotion to design director followed the exit of Fabio Zambardi, a veteran of the Prada Group, who had overseen designs for both Prada and Miu Miu for decades.
Under Vitale’s leadership, Miu Miu has experienced remarkable growth. The label achieved a staggering 58% revenue increase in 2023, reaching €649 million, and in 2024, its performance soared further, with a 97.3% revenue rise, hitting €854 million in the first nine months. Miu Miu also reclaimed the top spot in Lyst’s Q3 ranking of the most sought-after fashion brands.
This surge comes amid a challenging luxury market, highlighting Vitale’s impact. As his reputation grows, fashion houses are eager to secure his expertise. Miu Miu itself is navigating a period of change, with its former CEO, Benedetta Petruzzo, leaving for a leadership role at Christian Dior Couture. The search for a new CEO continues, making Nicoletti’s anticipated appointment a significant step forward.
The luxury fashion industry remains dynamic, with labels fiercely competing to attract visionary talent capable of driving innovation and sales.
