Professor Kingsley Moghalu, President of the African School of Governance, has urged the Nigerian government to prioritize addressing the nation’s pressing issues rather than fixating on UK Conservative Party leader, Kemi Badenoch.
Moghalu emphasized that focusing on Badenoch’s statements or identity does nothing to alleviate the economic challenges facing Nigerians.
In a related matter, Badenoch criticized the Nigeria Police, alleging they stole her brother’s belongings, including shoes and wristwatches. This accusation followed remarks by Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, who accused her of undermining her country of origin.
Unfazed by Shettima’s comments, Badenoch clarified that she identifies more with her Yoruba heritage than with Nigeria as a nation.
Responding to the controversy on his X account, Moghalu downplayed the significance of the debate. He stressed that whether Badenoch ascends to the role of UK Prime Minister or not, it holds no tangible impact for Nigeria.
“The discussion around Kemi Badenoch’s identity politics is misplaced. Her achievements or opinions have no bearing on Nigeria’s progress. The focus should be on solving our own problems. Neither claiming Kemi nor her rejecting Nigeria will change anything,” Moghalu wrote.
His statement serves as a reminder for the government and citizens to channel energy into tackling the real challenges plaguing the nation.
