Real Madrid Poised to Sign Bournemouth Defender Dean Huijsen
Real Madrid is on the verge of bringing Bournemouth’s rising star, Dean Huijsen, into their squad after activating his £50 million release clause. This move is a clear sign of the club’s commitment to strengthening their defense ahead of next season.
At just 20 years old, Huijsen has already made waves in the Premier League and is now close to agreeing on personal terms with the Spanish giants.
Despite tempting offers from top English clubs like Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal, and Newcastle, Huijsen has chosen a return to Spain—a country where he spent much of his youth development.
The transfer fee will be paid in three installments, and both Juventus and Malaga, two of his former clubs, will receive a share of the deal—10% to Juventus and 5% to Malaga—for their roles in his growth.
According to BBC Sport, talks are progressing well, with a full agreement expected soon.
Real Madrid is eager to wrap up this signing before the upcoming Club World Cup in the U.S. next month, highlighting how important it is for them to reinforce the squad quickly.
Huijsen’s decision to join Madrid also has the backing of Xabi Alonso, the club’s incoming manager who values adding young defensive talent. Alonso, set to take over from Carlo Ancelotti, sees Huijsen as a key piece in building for the future.
Last summer, Huijsen moved to Bournemouth from Juventus for £12.6 million. Since then, he’s become a regular on the team, featuring in 34 matches this season and even scoring three goals.
His strong performances caught the attention of two national teams: the Netherlands, where he was born, and Spain, where he trained as a player. He ultimately chose Spain, making his international debut in March 2025 during their victorious 2024 European Championship campaign, facing off against his country of birth.
