Aliko Dangote Applauds Tinubu’s Bold Moves on Infrastructure and Flood Control
Nigerian business magnate Aliko Dangote has openly praised President Bola Tinubu for his leadership in addressing long-standing issues of flooding and driving forward landmark infrastructure projects across the country.
In a letter titled “Appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR”, which was shared by presidential aide Bayo Onanuga on X (formerly Twitter), Dangote highlighted the administration’s efforts, especially the work done in Eko Atlantic City and on several nationwide highway developments.
Referring to the once-troubled Bar Beach area in Lagos, Dangote noted the transformation that has taken place thanks to the construction of an 8.5-kilometer sea wall—famously known as the Great Wall of Lagos. He credited the project with protecting Victoria Island from coastal erosion and reclaiming valuable land now used for homes, businesses, and recreation.
“For those of us living in Victoria Island, this achievement is deeply personal and impactful,” Dangote wrote.
He also mentioned key areas in Lagos—Ahmadu Bello Way, Akin Adesola, Bishop Oluwole, and several other flood-prone streets—where interventions have improved drainage and reduced flooding issues significantly.
Beyond Lagos, Dangote commended the government for rekindling long-abandoned infrastructure dreams, notably the Lagos-Calabar coastal route and the ambitious Sokoto-Badagry superhighway—reviving a project that had been on hold for nearly five decades. Both are being developed by Hitech Construction, a firm known for delivering complex engineering projects.
In a broader perspective, he drew a comparison to land reclamation works in the Netherlands, where waterlogged areas were turned into livable and productive land—suggesting that Nigeria is beginning to make similar strides.
The letter also touched on the recent tragic flooding in Kerr County, Texas, expressing sympathy for the victims while emphasizing the importance of flood preparedness and smart urban planning—values he said the Tinubu government is now embracing.
“This spirit of resilience and foresight is visible in the Bar Beach initiative. I salute you,” he wrote in conclusion.
Presidential Aide Responds
Reacting to the letter, Bayo Onanuga described Dangote’s words as “a sincere and sharp contrast” to the opposition’s claims that the Tinubu administration has been ineffective.
With inflation and economic hardship still on the minds of many Nigerians, Dangote’s public praise comes as a timely vote of confidence—particularly highlighting the president’s visible efforts in infrastructure and climate-focused development.
