A Farewell of Honor: Tinubu Bows Before Buhari
In a moment heavy with emotion and national reflection, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu paid his final respects to the late Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday during a solemn farewell in Daura, Katsina State.
Dressed in a flowing blue agbada, Tinubu walked slowly toward the stretcher carrying Buhari’s flag-draped body. With a quiet bow of his head, he offered a gesture of deep respect to the man he once succeeded—an act that spoke louder than words.
The ceremony, held in Buhari’s hometown, was marked by military precision and tradition. The green-and-white flag lay neatly over the former president’s remains, framed by an atmosphere of silence, prayer, and reverence.
A wave of dignitaries joined in mourning, both from within Nigeria and across neighboring nations. Vice President Kashim Shettima stood among leaders including Guinea-Bissau’s President Umaro Sissoco Embaló, Niger’s Prime Minister Ali Lamine Zeine, former Nigerian heads of state like Atiku Abubakar and Yemi Osinbajo, and respected elder statesman Mahamadou Issoufou.
Traditional rulers, lawmakers, business moguls like Aliko Dangote, and thousands of everyday citizens came together for the Islamic funeral prayer, led by Imam Hassan Yusuf.
Earlier in the day, Tinubu received Buhari’s body at the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua International Airport before traveling to Daura. There, surrounded by sorrow and solidarity, the former president was laid to rest at his private residence.
It was not just the end of a life—it was the closing of a chapter in the nation’s story, witnessed by those who knew, served, and walked alongside him.
