Vice President Kashim Shettima stood among leaders including Guinea-Bissau’s President Umaro Sissoco Embaló, Niger’s Prime Minister Ali Lamine Zeine, former Nigerian heads of state like Atiku Abubakar and Yemi Osinbajo, and respected elder statesman Mahamadou Issoufou.
Traditional rulers, lawmakers, business moguls like Aliko Dangote, and thousands of everyday citizens came together for the Islamic funeral prayer, led by Imam Hassan Yusuf.
Earlier in the day, Tinubu received Buhari’s body at the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua International Airport before traveling to Daura. There, surrounded by sorrow and solidarity, the former president was laid to rest at his private residence.
