The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is hoping to bring Peter Obi back into its ranks, and they’re not hiding it.
Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Ibrahim Abdullahi, shared the party’s intentions during a recent interview on Arise Television. According to him, Peter Obi isn’t just a former member—he’s a product of the PDP and someone whose influence could shift political tides.
You’ll recall that ahead of the 2023 general elections, Obi—once the PDP’s vice-presidential candidate—parted ways with the party and joined the Labour Party. He went on to secure their presidential ticket, running against Bola Tinubu, Atiku Abubakar, and Rabiu Kwankwaso.
Though he didn’t win, Obi made a serious impact. He clinched 12 states, including the Federal Capital Territory, and finished third overall—pulling in over six million votes, even with the odds stacked against him.
Abdullahi described him as “political capital,” noting that any party would benefit from his return. “If Peter Obi hadn’t stepped away, there’s no telling what the outcome would have been,” he said. “Despite the challenges, he proved his strength.”
The message from the PDP is clear: they want him back—and they see his value, loud and clear.
