The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has announced the indefinite suspension of Nollywood actress and producer Shirley Igwe, following an incident of physical misconduct on a film set in Lagos.
According to reports, a disagreement during filming escalated, leading to Igwe allegedly slapping a crew member. The altercation quickly caught the attention of AGN leadership, prompting an internal review.
In a letter dated July 21 and signed by AGN President Emeka Rollas, the Guild described Igwe’s actions as a serious breach of professional conduct and a violation of the standards expected within the industry. The statement emphasized that such behavior undermines the integrity of the acting profession.
“This suspension follows our preliminary investigation into the allegation of violence involving actress Shirley Igwe,” the letter stated. “Her conduct—marked by violence and indiscipline—is contrary to our code of ethics and capable of bringing disrepute to the profession.”
As a result, the AGN has instructed all its members to steer clear of any productions involving the actress until further notice.
The Guild reiterated its commitment to upholding discipline and professionalism within the industry, sending a clear message that misconduct will not be taken lightly.
