Nollywood actor Jerry Williams has reportedly been taken into police custody under circumstances that have sparked concern among fans and colleagues.
According to eyewitness reports, Williams was picked up from his home in Delta State early Monday morning, July 21, 2025, and transported to Benin, Edo State. The arrest was said to have been coordinated with the help of a man identified as Nwafor Franklin, popularly known as Izutech.
Fellow actor Stanley Ontop took to social media with a video, sounding the alarm about the situation. He claimed that Williams was forcefully taken and expressed serious concern for his colleague’s safety. Ontop also alleged that Izutech had collected ₦2.5 million from movie producers who were hoping to cast Williams, raising questions about the true motive behind the arrest.
In a strongly worded statement, Stanley declared:
“Izu went to Jerry Williams’ house this morning and took him to Benin with the help of some officers. If anything happens to Jerry, Izu should be held accountable.”
This incident comes not long after Williams returned to the spotlight, following a break from acting for rehabilitation related to substance abuse. His recent comeback had been met with support and optimism within the Nollywood community.
In a separate development, activist Scott Iguma was granted bail by a Federal High Court in Lagos on Monday. Iguma is currently facing trial over allegations of sharing false information and issuing threats.
Justice Friday Oghazi set his bail at ₦10 million, with the condition that he must provide a surety of equal value—either a property owner within the court’s jurisdiction or a civil servant not below grade level 12 in the federal or Lagos State Government.
While one figure in the spotlight gets a second chance, another now finds himself caught in a troubling and unclear situation—leaving many wondering what’s next for Jerry Williams.
