President Bola Tinubu, during Thursday’s National Executive Committee meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja, delivered a pointed message to opposition leaders, encouraging them to switch sides and align with the ruling party.
In a tone that blended strategy with sarcasm, Tinubu suggested that leaving fractured political groups in favour of the APC might be a smart move. “There’s nothing wrong with stepping away from disorder and choosing stability,” he remarked—an indirect reference to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the recently formed opposition alliance under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
His comments followed the high-profile defections of Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and Akwa Ibom Governor Umo Eno, both formerly of the PDP, now welcomed into the APC fold. Their move has been viewed as a calculated political boost for the party as it eyes the 2027 elections.
Tinubu encouraged party members to maintain an open-door policy, noting that the APC must remain receptive to anyone who believes in its direction and values. According to party figures, the APC currently governs 23 states across the country.
The President’s remarks come as political alignments begin to shift, with the ADC coalition reportedly drawing attention from key figures like Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Nasir El-Rufai.
