“Don’t Trade Your Soul for Riches” — Pastor Adeboye Urges Christians to Stay Rooted in Faith
Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, has a message that cuts deep: chasing riches while neglecting your soul is a dangerous game.
Speaking at RCCG’s 73rd Annual Convention in Redemption Camp, Ogun State, he reminded believers that true success isn’t about how much you own — it’s about what owns you.
Delivering his sermon under the theme “The Overcomers,” Pastor Adeboye warned against allowing material things to take the place of spiritual priorities. “If you’re running after wealth while your soul starves,” he said, “you’re not winning — that’s foolishness.”
He wasn’t against prosperity — not at all. “God doesn’t hate enjoyment,” he said with a smile. But he made it clear that a life centered on temporary pleasures can’t compare to one focused on eternal truth.
“The same body you spend hours pampering will one day be gone,” he continued. “Your spirit, on the other hand, is what lives on. That’s what needs the real care.”
Adeboye spoke passionately about the need for spiritual discipline — the kind that keeps a believer steady even when temptations hit hard. “It takes discipline to become a champion,” he said, “but staying one takes even more. There’s always someone waiting to take your crown.”
He encouraged those struggling to hold the line to lean on their faith. “Life is a battlefield,” he said. “But you’re not alone in the fight. The Holy Spirit lives in you — and He’s stronger than anything coming against you.”
In a moment of reflection, he reminded the crowd of their spiritual identity: a blend of flesh and divine breath. “You’re made of dust and Spirit,” he said. “The dust tries to weigh you down. The Spirit lifts you up. Your victory lies in choosing the Spirit every single time.”
