Manchester United Secure Benjamin Sesko in £73.7m Move from RB Leipzig
Manchester United have officially landed Slovenian striker Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig in a deal worth £73.7 million, pending registration. The 22-year-old has signed a contract running until June 2030, with £66.3m guaranteed and the rest tied to performance-related add-ons.
Sesko becomes United’s third major attacking addition of the summer, joining Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo at Old Trafford. While Newcastle United were also in the race, the forward opted for Erik ten Hag’s squad, drawn by the club’s vision and long-term project.
A Prolific Young Talent
Last season, Sesko hit 21 goals and 6 assists for Leipzig, earning the title of top scorer among players under 23 in Europe’s top five leagues. On the international stage, he has already scored 16 goals in 41 appearances for Slovenia since debuting in 2021 — making history as his country’s youngest-ever senior player.
Sesko’s First Words as a Red
“The history of Manchester United is obviously very special, but what excites me most is the future,” Sesko shared. “When I heard the vision for this team, I knew everything was in place to grow and compete for the biggest trophies. From the moment I arrived, I could feel the positive energy here. This is the perfect place to push myself to the highest level and achieve my ambitions. I can’t wait to work with Ruben Amorim and my new teammates to bring success back to this club.”
Why United Wanted Him
Director of Football Jason Wilcox praised the striker’s unique qualities:
“Benjamin combines blistering pace with the physical strength to dominate defenders. He’s one of the most exciting young talents in world football. Our data and scouting reports were unanimous — he has the skillset and mentality to thrive here. Under Ruben’s guidance and with our performance team, we believe he will reach his world-class potential.”
Wilcox also highlighted that Sesko’s arrival reflects the continued appeal and stature of Manchester United:
“The hunger shown by all our signings this summer underlines our ambition to build a squad capable of challenging for the game’s biggest prizes.”
