D’Tigress Make History with Highest-Ever World Ranking
Nigeria’s D’Tigress are flying higher than ever! The reigning African champions have climbed to 8th in the latest FIBA Women’s World Rankings — the highest position they’ve ever reached — cementing their place as the only African team to break into the global top 10.
This milestone is the latest chapter in a story of dominance. Just last month, the team claimed their fifth consecutive FIBA Women’s AfroBasket crown — their seventh overall — securing a spot at the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup.
Their rise has been years in the making. From making history at the Paris 2024 Olympics as the first African team to reach the quarter-finals, to delivering back-to-back powerhouse performances in AfroBasket, D’Tigress have shown they can go toe-to-toe with the best in the world.
With 640.1 points in the FIBA standings, they now sit ahead of basketball giants Brazil and Serbia. While the USA still lead globally, Nigeria has firmly joined the conversation alongside Australia, France, China, and Belgium.
Elsewhere in Africa, Mali jumped to 18th after finishing as AfroBasket runners-up, Senegal placed 25th, Mozambique 32nd, Cameroon 35th, and Egypt 43rd. In one of the most inspiring rises of the year, South Sudan surged 31 spots to 55th after winning bronze in their AfroBasket debut.
