Manchester City have officially announced the signing of Gianluigi Donnarumma from Paris Saint-Germain, securing the Italian shot-stopper on a five-year deal that keeps him at the Etihad until 2030.
At 26, Donnarumma arrives with a reputation as one of the game’s elite goalkeepers. His towering 6ft 5in frame and trophy-filled career bring both presence and pedigree to Pep Guardiola’s squad, which is already stacked with world-class talent.
Donnarumma’s rise began at just 16 with AC Milan, where he racked up over 250 appearances and delivered the Italian Super Cup in 2016. His move to PSG in 2021 brought even more silverware, including four Ligue 1 titles, two French Cups, and three Super Cups. The highlight of his Paris spell came earlier this year, when he was instrumental in their first-ever Champions League triumph, a commanding 5-0 victory over Inter Milan in the final.
On the international stage, Donnarumma cemented his place in football history with his penalty heroics at Wembley during EURO 2020, guiding Italy to glory and being named Player of the Tournament.
Speaking on his new chapter, Donnarumma said:
“Signing for Manchester City is a proud and special moment in my career. I’m joining an incredible team, full of top players, and led by Pep Guardiola—one of the greatest managers in football. This is a club any player would dream of representing.”
City’s Director of Football, Hugo Viana, couldn’t hide his excitement:
“Gianluigi’s track record speaks volumes. To achieve so much, so young, is extraordinary—especially for a goalkeeper. He joins us as one of the very best in the world, and we’re thrilled to welcome him.”
