Uriel Oputa Speaks Out on Celebrity Wedding Comparisons
Reality TV star Uriel Oputa has weighed in on the constant comparisons Nigerians make between high-profile weddings—especially those of Davido and Chioma, and Mr Eazi and Temi Otedola.
In a post shared on her Instagram story, the former Big Brother Naija housemate criticized the trend, pointing out that many people who fuel these debates cannot afford the kind of luxury weddings they admire.
Uriel described the comparisons as misplaced, noting that most critics struggle with the cost of basic wedding expenses while projecting an image of affluence.
She didn’t hold back in her remarks:
“Nigerians will be here comparing Davido & Chioma with Mr Eazi & Temi when most of you cannot even afford either of them. Some of you borrow money just to do a wedding, yet still have the audacity to talk about ‘class’ and ‘royalty.’ My friend, do you even have the money to do one quarter?”
The TV star further mocked the lengths some go to in order to appear extravagant:
“When it’s your own wedding, you’re pricing aso-oke material for ₦150k, forming high class. Meanwhile, under your cake, only the top tier is real—everything else is cardboard. And you still get mouth to talk ‘class’? Abeg, shift.”
Uriel also poked fun at over-the-top receptions:
“Las las, you’ll rent a big gorilla to dance at the reception, add those tall people on stilts jumping around doing do-re-mi, and still be shouting ‘class.’ Stop judging.”
Her post has since sparked mixed reactions, with some agreeing with her blunt take while others felt she went too far.
