The former president of the association, Mr. Kwesi Nyantakyi, has been praised by Mr. Kurt Okraku, the president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), for his crucial contribution to Ghana’s three consecutive appearances at the FIFA World Cup.
As previously mentioned, it was during Nyantakyi’s presidency that Ghana earned its first World Cup qualification in 2006 and two more in 2010 and 2014. Ghana’s best chance at the World Cup came in 2010 when the Black Stars competed in South Africa and advanced to the quarterfinals, joining Senegal and Cameroon as the top African nations.
Speaking at the National Identification Program’s launch, which aims to develop young players, Mr. Okraku stated that Nyantakyi was crucial to the growth of football in Ghana.
He congratulated Kwesi Nyantakyi for leading Ghana to the World Cup in 2006, 2010, and 2014.
According to Mr. Okraku, the biggest football tournament in the world serves as a showcase for talented players, so it is important to develop young players who will represent Ghana at the championship in the future.
Ghana secured a ticket at the expense of Nigeria to attend the event in Qatar in 2022 after missing out on the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
Ghana will start her campaign on November 24 against Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal in Group H along with Uruguay, South Korea, and Portugal.
