Comedian and actor Bovi has opened up about why his career took a different turn from that of his longtime colleague, Basketmouth.
Speaking in a recent interview, Bovi explained that there’s no conflict between them—just a natural shift in focus as their interests evolved over time.
He admitted that he easily gets restless doing the same thing for too long, which pushed him to explore new projects, from films to television, while also putting more energy into building his personal brand. For him, growth has meant stepping out on his own and proving that he can hold an audience without relying on partnerships.
Beyond the creative drive, Bovi said financial independence played a big role in his decision. He wanted to reach a point where he could command shows on his own terms and keep the rewards of his hard work.
In his words:
“I’m cool with Basketmouth, nothing happened. Interests changed, especially for me. I wanted to focus more, spend more time with my family, and elevate myself. I easily get bored with things, so when I’m doing something for too long, I try something new. I started films, went back to TV, and wanted the world to know I can stand with the mic endlessly by myself. Also, I thought—if I call for a show at Eko Hotel and it fills up, why share the money? Why should many people do one show when I can keep it all?”
For Bovi, the move wasn’t about cutting ties but about redefining success on his own terms—creatively and financially.
