Former Big Brother Naija star Venita Akpofure is grieving the loss of her cousin and childhood god-sister, Somtochukwu Maduagwu, a television anchor with Arise TV.
The 29-year-old journalist tragically lost her life on Monday during a robbery at her apartment in Katampe, Abuja. Reports say she fell from the balcony of her third-floor residence while the attack was unfolding.
Venita, heartbroken, took to social media to share her pain. She remembered how she once cared for Somtochukwu as a child and struggled to put her grief into words. In her post, she wrote:
“I can’t do this. I’ve been crying so badly. Sommie is my cousin/Godsister. I babysat her from childhood ❤️.”
She also reposted an old message from Somtochukwu, where the late anchor had expressed her love and support for Venita during her time in the Big Brother house.
Since the news broke, messages of condolence have been pouring in from friends, fans, and colleagues, all praying for comfort for the family.
Meanwhile, Somtochukwu’s final tweets have resurfaced, revealing her worries and hopes before her passing. In a post from August, she prayed that Nigeria would never “happen” to her or to anyone she loved.
