Barcelona have dismissed rumors suggesting goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen could leave the club in the January transfer window.
The Catalan side made it clear that the German international remains a key figure in their plans, both on and off the pitch.
Sporting director Deco addressed the speculation in an interview with Mundo Deportivo, later echoed by Fabrizio Romano on 𝕏. He stated:
“There’s no January plan around Ter Stegen’s exit. If he was fit, he’d be playing. He’s our captain.”
Deco went on to explain that the signing of Joan García from Espanyol was a strategic move for the present and future, not a replacement or challenge to Ter Stegen’s place in the squad.
“Joan García was about smart planning. It wasn’t against Ter Stegen,” he clarified.
Since arriving from Borussia Mönchengladbach in 2014, the 32-year-old goalkeeper has been a cornerstone for Barcelona. Known for his sharp reflexes, composure under pressure, and ability to build play from the back, he seamlessly stepped into the role once held by Víctor Valdés.
Over the years, Ter Stegen has also become one of the team’s captains, earning respect not just for his performances but for his leadership.
While García’s arrival sparked speculation, the club maintains that Ter Stegen remains the undisputed No.1. Barcelona insist there have been no talks of a January departure, reinforcing that their trusted goalkeeper is firmly part of the club’s present and future.
