A fire broke out on Thursday morning at the Madrid home of Real Madrid forward Vinicius Jr., authorities confirmed.
The incident occurred in La Moraleja, an upscale area in Alcobendas, north of Madrid. Fortunately, Vinicius was not at home at the time, as he is currently training with Brazil’s national team ahead of upcoming friendly matches against South Korea and Japan on October 10 and 14.
Emergency responders revealed that the fire started in the sauna located in the basement of the house. Investigators believe an electrical fault may have triggered the blaze, which destroyed the sauna and sent thick smoke through the stairwell, reaching the upper floors. Several rooms were left with heavy smoke damage before firefighters were able to bring the situation under control.
The first distress call came in around 11 a.m., prompting a swift response from Madrid’s regional fire department. Two firefighting units arrived on the scene and worked alongside local police officers who were already using extinguishers to keep the flames at bay.
Officials credited the quick coordination between emergency teams for preventing further damage. Once the flames were put out, crews focused on ventilating the building and clearing out the smoke, wrapping up operations shortly after noon.
No one was injured, and there were no cases of smoke inhalation. Authorities are continuing to assess the damage and investigate the exact cause of the electrical fault.
Vinicius Jr., who joined Real Madrid in 2018 and has since become one of the club’s key players, has not yet made any public statement regarding the incident. Repairs on the property are expected to begin once the inspection and cleanup are complete.
