Spain’s plans for their upcoming international matches have hit a sudden snag as Barcelona’s rising star Lamine Yamal has withdrawn from the squad.
Yamal pulled out after undergoing a medical procedure without informing the national team in advance. The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) revealed that the 16-year-old had a radiofrequency treatment for pubic discomfort on the morning of November 10—the same day Spain’s training camp was set to begin.
In an official statement, the RFEF said, “The Medical Services of the RFEF were surprised to learn at 13:47 on Monday, November 10, that Lamine Yamal had undergone an invasive radiofrequency procedure for his pubic discomfort that morning.” The federation added that they only received the details later that evening through a medical report, which recommended seven to ten days of rest.
“Prioritizing the health and well-being of the player, the Royal Spanish Football Federation has decided to release him from this call-up. We hope for a smooth recovery and look forward to his return,” the statement concluded. Yamal will now miss Spain’s matches against Georgia and Turkey as he focuses on recovery.
Meanwhile, Slovenia has also suffered an injury setback, with forward Benjamin Sesko ruled out of this month’s international fixtures after picking up an injury during club duty with Manchester United.
The Slovenian Football Association confirmed receipt of full medical documentation from the club, detailing Sesko’s condition and examination results. “Following the team’s afternoon training, we received all medical documents from Manchester United regarding Sesko’s injury, including his current condition and completed examinations,” the statement read.
The association added, “His injury prevents him from training with the national team. Further examinations and treatment will begin in the coming days. We wish Sesko a full and speedy recovery and look forward to seeing him back on the field soon.”
