Mavin Records founder Don Jazzy has shut down claims that he once dodged arrest in the United Kingdom after being involved in a car accident early in his career.
The rumour resurfaced after his former associate, Bankulli, shared a story at an event, alleging that Don Jazzy fled the scene of a crash in London. According to Bankulli, the producer removed the car’s number plate and ran off when police arrived, supposedly because the cost of towing the wrecked vehicle was higher than fixing it.
He claimed Don Jazzy had dozed off behind the wheel after a show, crashed the car, panicked, and abandoned it. Bankulli added, “Look at Don Jazzy now, he has fleets of cars,” implying the singer’s situation has drastically changed.
The story stirred reactions online, with one user on 𝕏 warning that such a tale could cause trouble if Don Jazzy ever returns to the UK, saying, “I just hope he’s not planning a trip to London. They can reopen a 20-year-old case.”
Don Jazzy, however, stepped in to set the record straight. He urged fans to relax, explaining that he never ran from the police. According to him, he stayed at the scene, took a breathalyser test, and was cleared of any suspicion of drunk driving.
He further revealed that although he cooperated fully, the authorities still impounded the vehicle. The fine to recover it cost more than the car itself, so he simply let it go.
In his words:
“Lol, no panic. It’s been so long, so he doesn’t remember the story well. I waited for the police. They tested me, I wasn’t drunk, but the car was impounded. The fine to get it back was more than the cheap car, so I left it with them lol.”
