Veteran actor Patrick Doyle has shared why he chooses silence over saying anything unkind about his ex-wife, Ireti Doyle.
The former couple, who married in 2004 and officially ended their union in 2023, have continued to maintain a level of professionalism even after their split. They both appeared in the 2023 thriller The Black Book, showing that their separation hasn’t stopped them from working together when necessary.
During an interview on TVC’s Wake Up Nigeria, Patrick was asked about his current relationship with Ireti. In his response, he made it clear that he avoids speaking negatively about anyone, especially someone he once shared a life with.
According to him, “If I don’t have something kind to say, I prefer to keep quiet. My calling doesn’t allow me to speak badly about anyone—living or gone.”
He also expressed pride in Ireti’s accomplishments, noting that she has carried the Doyle name with dignity and has continued to flourish in the film industry. “I’m glad the name has opened doors for her. She has done well for herself, and I’m proud of her progress. I hope it stays that way,” he added.
However, this comes months after Patrick hinted that Ireti still uses his surname to stay visible in Nollywood. At the time, he questioned the idea of his identity being tied to hers, insisting that his work and reputation stand firmly on their own.
“The name existed long before her,” he said. “If someone chooses to revert to Doyle after a separation, that’s fine. I have no issue with it. But my legacy doesn’t depend on anyone.”
