The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of one person in connection with the death of Afro-Fuji singer Adesina Afeez, widely known as Destiny Boy.
According to police officials, the case has now been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department’s Homicide Section for a more detailed investigation. The command’s spokesperson, Babaseyi Oluseyi, stated that detectives have begun a full probe into the circumstances surrounding the passing of the 22-year-old musician.
“One suspect is currently in custody while investigations continue,” Oluseyi confirmed, adding that the matter is being treated with the seriousness it deserves.
News of Destiny Boy’s death began circulating on Sunday after disturbing videos showing his body being taken to a mortuary surfaced online. The footage sparked widespread grief among fans and triggered intense public concern over how the young singer died.
In one clip, Destiny Boy was seen lying at the back of a vehicle, with cotton wool placed in his nostrils and ears. Another video later emerged featuring an unidentified associate who attempted to explain what happened. The man claimed the singer had been battling a private health issue and that efforts were made to help him before his passing, though he did not survive.
Born Afeez Adeshina, Destiny Boy discovered his passion for music early in life. He built his sound around a fusion of Fuji rhythms and contemporary street music. His journey began at T2 Boys Studios in Agege, where he also worked as a backup dancer for Fuji legend Pasuma.
He rose to fame in 2019 after his Fuji-inspired cover of Davido’s hit song If went viral, opening doors to a wider audience. He later released covers of songs by artists such as Tekno, 2Baba, 9ice, and Small Doctor, further cementing his place in the street-pop scene.
Destiny Boy also released original tracks including Lamba, One Transaction, Gbese, Billion Dollar, Mio Gbonkankan, and Lowkey. In November 2024, he welcomed his first child with his partner, Iremide.
As investigations continue, fans and colleagues continue to mourn the loss of a young talent whose life and career were cut short.
