Diogo Jota, a Portuguese forward for Liverpool, has a calf injury and will miss the World Cup, according to manager Jurgen Klopp. In the waning seconds of his team’s 1-0 Premier League victory over Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday, the 25-year-old was carried off on a stretcher. Jota will be sidelined for a “long time,” according to Klopp, and “we talk about months.”
“It is a rather bad calf muscle damage. Sad news for the youngster, for Portugal, and for us, “said the German.
“So far, he seems to be doing OK. He’s a very bright young man. When we carried him off the field, I believe he knew.”
“We ran into each other after the game, and he basically recounted what had transpired. I believe he was aware of how serious it was and how it might affect his World Cup dreams.”
On social media, Jota stated: “Mine ended in the worst way possible after such a fantastic night at Anfield! One of my dreams abruptly came to an end.”
He missed the first few games of the season due to a hamstring injury before making his comeback on September 3 in a scoreless draw with Everton.
Later the same month, during the international break, Jota participated for Portugal and scored in a 4-0 victory over the Czech Republic.
After such a good night at Anfield mine ended in the worst way ! In the last minute one of my dreams collapsed 💔
I will be one more supporting from the outside, club and country, and fighting to be back as soon as possible 🙏
