Cristiano Ronaldo, a former star for Manchester United, claimed he would never have imagined scoring in five World Championships.
In a post on his verified Facebook page on Friday, Ronaldo stated that this achievement was evidence that nothing was impossible.
“Scoring in five World Championships is an accomplishment I would never have dared to hope for, but it also shows that nothing is impossible. The satisfaction I get when I score a goal for Portugal, which results in triumphs committed to our people, is the only thing that compares to the pride I feel when I represent Portugal. Time to go! This is only the start, he wrote.
In Portugal’s opening match against Ghana in Qatar, Ronaldo created history by becoming the first male player to score in five World Cups.
At Doha’s Stadium 974, the 118th goal for his nation was scored by Portugal’s captain from the penalty spot in the 65th minute. Joao Felix and Rafael Leao’s goals helped Portugal overcome two late Ghanaian attempts as they went on to win 3-2.
Ronaldo, 37, has a record 18 World Cup appearances for Portugal and is the most prolific goal scorer in men’s international football.
His most recent achievement came shortly after he amicably left Manchester United.
