A well-known Egyptian actress has received a one-year suspended prison sentence for cannabis possession. According to the AFP news agency, the drug was discovered in lollipops and other snacks in her bags.
Menna Shalabi was on her way from the United States to Cairo. Cannabis is legal in some states in the United States, but not in Egypt.

According to Egyptian media, Ms. Shalabi denied ownership of the drugs at the time of her arrest in November. Ms. Shalabi has previously received Emmy nominations. Despite being illegal, cannabis is widely used in Egypt, according to AFP.
