The Gambia’s Vice President, Badara Alieu Joof, has died in India, according to President Adama Barrow.
Mr. Barrow did not say whether the vice president was receiving treatment in India when he died after a brief illness. Mr. Joof had not been seen in public for months, according to the BBC’s Omar Wally in Banjul.

Mr. Barrow picked him as vice president after being re-elected in December 2021 for a second term.
Mr. Joof expressed dissatisfaction with the conduct of public affairs in June, saying Gambians had high expectations and that “business as usual” would not result in decisive change, according to our reporter.
