Former Osun State Deputy Governor and APC chieftain, Iyiola Omisore, has taken a swipe at Governor Ademola Adeleke, describing him as a “political orphan” amid rumours of Adeleke considering a move from the PDP to the APC.
During an interview on Politics Today on Channels TV, Omisore said he had no confirmation about the defection talks but stressed that joining a political party isn’t as simple as switching sides—it requires acceptance from party members. “Politics is local,” he said. “When you’re coming into a party, what exactly are you bringing to the table?”
Referencing the 2022 Osun governorship election, Omisore noted that the APC polled 375,000 votes while the PDP secured 403,000, a narrow margin of just under 4%. He argued that many of those who worked against the APC at the time—including key figures—have since returned to the fold.
He also pointed out that since Adeleke assumed office, no known APC member has defected to the PDP, whereas several notable PDP members have crossed over to the APC, including Alhaji Isa Oyedokun, Dayo Babayemi, and Hon. Wole Oke—with more expected.
Omisore questioned why Adeleke, if truly influential, is allegedly lobbying to be accepted into the APC. “If you’re that popular, you can go ahead and build your own platform,” he said. “Why force your way in?”
Turning to opposition alliances, Omisore dismissed them as self-serving. “I’m not concerned,” he said. “Everyone wants to be president—Obi, Atiku, Amaechi, Tambuwal… They’re all in it for the same thing. Politics isn’t theory—it’s the real world.”
