Deezer Takes a Stand Against Fake AI-Generated Music
Deezer has revealed a startling insight into the growing influence of artificial intelligence in the music industry. According to the platform, roughly 10% of daily uploads—around 10,000 tracks—are fake or AI-generated noise.
Tackling the Problem
The Paris-based streaming service rolled out fraud detection technology in 2023, enabling it to identify AI-generated tracks without relying on extensive database training. This breakthrough has driven the company to file for two patents to strengthen its fight against fraudulent uploads.
The primary goal? Protect genuine artists by removing fake tracks often uploaded to exploit streaming algorithms. Many of these tracks mimic popular songs or replicate artists’ voices, creating confusion and unfair competition.
Plans for Change
Deezer is developing a system to label AI-generated content, ensuring such tracks are excluded from its recommendation lists. This step aims to preserve the integrity of user listening experiences while promoting genuine artistry.
“Artificial intelligence continues to disrupt the music industry in profound ways,” stated Deezer CEO Alexis Lanternier.
A Fairer Model
In January, Deezer announced plans to adjust its artist remuneration system. This new approach will focus on rewarding musicians with diverse listener bases, even if their streams are fewer in number.
As AI reshapes the creative landscape, Deezer’s proactive measures demonstrate its commitment to safeguarding authentic music and supporting the artists behind it.
