Judge Dismisses Paternity Case Filed Against Jay-Z
A long-running paternity case involving hip-hop legend Jay-Z has officially come to an end. A California judge has dismissed, with prejudice, the lawsuit filed by Rymir Satterthwaite, who has for years claimed to be the rapper’s biological son.
According to court papers obtained by Page Six, the decision means Satterthwaite, 30, can no longer reopen the case or request a DNA test from Jay-Z, whose legal name is Shawn Carter.
Satterthwaite had alleged that his late mother, Wanda Satterthwaite, had a relationship with the rapper back in the 1990s and that he was the result of that encounter. Jay-Z has consistently denied the claim.
Earlier this year, Satterthwaite appeared to back away from his legal pursuit, sharing on Instagram that he was withdrawing the case for reasons he described as “going on behind closed doors.” He added, “I have not stopped my fight. We’ve got to step back and play chess, not checkers.”
Attorneys for the 55-year-old mogul called the repeated filings “baseless harassment,” noting that similar claims had already been dismissed by multiple courts. “These fabricated allegations have been rejected time and again,” they wrote, describing the lawsuits as part of a “decades-long” effort to tarnish the musician’s reputation.
Satterthwaite insisted his case wasn’t about money or child support, saying he sought justice for what he described as emotional and reputational harm. In earlier filings, he accused Jay-Z of manipulating the legal system to block his efforts to prove paternity.
Last year, he even petitioned the court to compel the multi-Grammy winner to take a DNA test — a demand that has now been permanently denied.
Jay-Z, who shares three children — Blue Ivy, 13, and twins Rumi and Sir, 8 — with wife Beyoncé, has not publicly commented on the latest ruling.
With the court’s decision, this decades-long controversy finally appears to be closed.
