“If Not Music, I’d Be Holding a Mic Too”—Davido Opens Up About His Love for Media
Davido, known for his chart-topping hits and larger-than-life energy, recently revealed a surprising alternative career path—one that still involves a mic, just not on stage.
While chatting with 96.1 The Beat in Atlanta, the Afrobeats star shared that if music hadn’t worked out, journalism would’ve been his go-to. Not because it’s trendy—but because he genuinely enjoys engaging with people and sharing stories.
“I actually love interviews,” he said with a grin. “I studied marketing too, not just business. So I get excited about promoting, about talking. If I ever started a podcast, I’d talk for days.”
For Davido, being in the spotlight doesn’t just mean making music—it means being part of the conversation. Unlike many in his league who avoid media rounds, he says he leans in.
“A lot of big artists don’t like to do press, but I enjoy it,” he explained. “I like asking questions, I like knowing things. Even at home, I’m always reading, always searching for new stuff. If I wasn’t singing, I’d definitely be doing something in media.”
His passion isn’t just talk. Davido is known for staying involved in nearly every aspect of his career—from shows to strategy to fan engagement.
“People ask me why I have so many followers,” he said, “It’s because I show up. A lot of people at my level take a backseat, but I’m always hands-on.”
He ended the conversation by tipping his hat to someone else with a reputation for working nonstop.
“Look at Beyoncé. She’s got it all, but she still works like she’s hungry. That’s what I respect—and try to do.”
