As Muslims mark Eid-ul-Mawlid, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has called on political leaders to place the needs of the people at the heart of governance.
In a goodwill message, CAN President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, celebrated with Nigerians—especially the Muslim community—highlighting that the occasion is a reminder of the Prophet’s values of humility, compassion, justice, and devotion to God.
“These virtues go beyond religion,” he said. “They challenge us to build a society rooted in peace, fairness, and respect for one another.”
Archbishop Okoh also noted that Nigeria is at a decisive point, facing economic struggles and leadership challenges. He urged those in power to show integrity, ease the burdens of citizens, and adopt policies that strengthen unity and uphold human dignity.
“Leadership must be guided by fairness and compassion if we truly want peace and progress,” he added.
He concluded by wishing Muslims a joyous celebration, praying that the season will inspire stronger bonds across faiths, renew hope for the nation, and encourage collective efforts toward justice and prosperity.

Eid-ul-Maulud: CAN Urges Leaders to Embrace Justice, Ease Hardship
1. The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) warmly felicitates with our Muslim brothers and sisters across the country as they commemorate the birth of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
2. Eid-ul-Maulud offers all Nigerians a moment of reflection on the values of humility, compassion, justice and devotion to God which the Prophet exemplified. These values transcend religious boundaries and point us towards building a society anchored on peace, fairness and mutual respect.
3. As our nation marks this occasion, we are reminded that Nigeria stands at a critical crossroad. The challenges of governance, economic hardship, and the deep yearning for credible leadership call for renewed commitment to principles that promote fairness, accountability and compassion.
4. We therefore urge political leaders, at all levels, to use this solemn season to embrace justice in their decisions, ease the burdens of hardship on citizens, and foster policies that strengthen unity and uphold the dignity of every Nigerian. Integrity and fairness must guide leadership if our nation is to realise its potential for peace and prosperity.
5. On behalf of the Christian community, I extend warm wishes to all Muslims for a peaceful and joyous celebration.
6. May this Eid-ul-Maulud inspire stronger bonds of unity across faiths, renew our shared hope for Nigeria, and encourage us all to work together for a just and prosperous nation.
Happy Eid-ul-Maulud!
Signed,
Archbishop Daniel Okoh
President, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN)
