Ghanaian Artist Kofi Kinaata Takes Neutral Stance Amid Political Offers
Acclaimed Ghanaian artist Kofi Kinaata has hinted that he may turn down a substantial $1 million offer to endorse a political party ahead of the upcoming elections. His decision stems from a desire to steer clear of escalating political tensions in the country and prioritize national welfare.
During a recent interview on Nhyira FM, known for his hit song “Things Fall Apart,” Kofi Kinaata clarified that while he is not inclined to create campaign songs for political parties, he remains open to performing at political events if formally invited and contracted, emphasizing entertainment over endorsements.
When asked hypothetically if a $1 million offer could sway his decision, Kofi Kinaata expressed hesitancy, citing concerns about potential backlash and the impact on his career. He stressed the importance of public understanding that artists performing at rallies do so professionally, separate from political allegiance.
“Maybe if the stigma lessens, we could consider creating songs for political parties. However, with current high political tensions, remaining neutral seems more prudent. Let God decide the winner, and post-election, we can unite to support the elected leader,” he remarked.
Kofi Kinaata’s stance underscores the balancing act artists face in politically charged environments, opting to focus on their artistic pursuits while navigating potential stigma and repercussions from political associations.
