Neymar Returns to Brazil Squad for Crucial World Cup Qualifiers
After a long 17-month absence, Neymar is set to make his much-anticipated return to the Brazilian national team for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Colombia and Argentina.
The forward, who recently rejoined Santos, last played for Brazil in October 2023 when a knee injury sidelined him during a clash with Uruguay. Since his return to club football, Neymar has delivered standout performances, scoring three goals and providing three assists in seven appearances—proving he still has plenty to offer.
At 33, Neymar remains one of Brazil’s most accomplished players. With 128 caps to his name, he is closing in on Cafu’s all-time record of 142 appearances for the Selecão. He also holds the title of Brazil’s top scorer, having netted 79 international goals—surpassing the legendary Pelé.
Brazil’s Road to Qualification
Currently sitting fifth in the Conmebol standings with 18 points from 12 matches, Brazil faces two critical fixtures. They will host Colombia on March 21 before traveling to Argentina five days later to take on the group leaders.
To strengthen the squad, head coach Dorival Junior has called up several Premier League stars. Liverpool’s Alisson and Manchester City’s Ederson will battle for the starting goalkeeper spot, while Arsenal’s Gabriel and Nottingham Forest’s Murillo add depth to the defense.
In midfield and attack, Wolves’ André and Matheus Cunha bring energy, while Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimarães and Joelinton provide creativity. Brighton’s João Pedro and Manchester City’s rising star Savinho add further firepower to Brazil’s attacking options.
With Neymar back in the mix and a strong squad assembled, Brazil will be looking to make a statement as they push for World Cup qualification.
