Since Prince Harry left the royal family, King Charles has filled the position of captain-general of the Royal Marines. The Royal Marines are currently commemorating their 358th birthday when the announcement is made.
After Megxit, Prince Harry allegedly felt saddened and “devastated” at leaving the position he had held since 2017.
At the Mountbatten Festival of Music two years ago, he addressed the Commandant General Royal Marines, Matthew Holmes, and other prominent individuals, saying, “I feel I’m letting people down, but I had no choice.”
The King issued a personal statement following his appointment today, stating: “It gives me the utmost pleasure to serve as your Captain General. “I am incredibly proud to carry on the tradition of so many generations of my family who have held the position with great esteem over the past three and a half centuries.
“Both on land and at sea, the history of the Royal Marines is illustrious and unmatched. You inspire me greatly with your strength, tenacity, self-control, and incredible ability to persevere in the most trying circumstances.”
I feel incredibly honored to join the Corps Family, and I’m looking forward to seeing many of you in the near future, he continued. In the interim, please accept this along with my warmest congratulations on your 358th birthday.

The Corps of Royal Marines was established on October 28, 1664, under King Charles II. Today is the 358th anniversary of that date.
While King Charles III was a naval officer, he had previously trained with and served with the Royal Marines. As Prince of Wales, Charles received helicopter pilot instruction at the Commando Training Centre Royal Marines (CTCRM) in Lympstone, Devon.
